A cost effective solution for a shallow rack

I ordered this with the BP24V15RT2U battery pack for longer run time after power failure. Installation was simple and the battery pack is simple to connect to the main unit.
I was pleased that the fan does not seem to be too loud, but it is louder than my PC's fans. The LCD display worked well at first, but after connecting the USB port to my Linux box only random segments get lit up in the same "scroll mode" timing that the display had when it was initially working. I don't know if this is a physical display failure, a display circuitry failure, or a firmware bug in the microprocessor controlling the display. I do not know if the display problem is something that would have happened anyway after 24 hours of operation, or if connecting and using the USB port had anything to do with it.
I was able to show device status on my Linux box using the NUT (Network UPS Tools) software combined with knutclient to display status on my KDE desktop, so I am pleased with that. The USB port connection is used to do that in my case, and it shows on knutclient what I no longer see on the LCD display, which after only a little over 24 hrs of continuous operation is now showing only 1 or 2 random segments lit up.
It is fortunate that before the display stopped working I was able to configure the device to indicate that it had an external battery attached and show estimated battery run times accordingly.
Other than the LCD display issue, this looks like a cost effective solution for my shallow rack that yields a power failure run time of about 1 hour for my load.
Update on June 10, 2012:
The display is working again, without any action on my part (at least none that I am aware of). So at this point, I am updating my rating to 5 stars.
Update on September 28, 2012:
The display is currently working, but has stopped and started working a number of times during the months I have owned the unit. It does not appear to affect the function of the unit at all, since I always have been able to read out on my computer via the USB interface the same values I can't see on the display when it "stops working."

I chose this rating because it was easy to setup and register and is apparently doing its job for the cost.
I like that I didn't have any problems getting it into my rack and that it has additional features I may use in the future.
I would recommend this product to anyone that has electronics.

LCD crapped out - can't return to Amazon

Let me tell you - this unit works great, so I'll give it five stars. I can straight up watch TV off of satellite for six hours after the power goes out (it does that a lot here). Very happy with the performance, alarm silence feature is huge - especially since you can set it to mute all the time. Important because, as I said, the power goes out a lot here - sometimes during the middle of the night and I hate getting up to turn off alarms.
Anyway, the unit works great, but the LCD has been twitchy ever since I got it - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't . I would have returned it to Amazon as a defect but: WHOOPS! You can't return this unit to Amazon because it has batteries in it (?) and it's not worth dealing with the manufacturer. Since most people I know buy from Amazon because of their return policy, they should put this in, like, "BIG RED LETTERS: YOU CAN"T RETURN THIS TO AMAZON,CALL THIS NUMBER" at checkout or something.
Also - be aware that this unit is force-cooled and can be a bit noisy, especially when charging or discharging. Not an issue for me but it might drive my wife nuts if it were in the bedroom or something.
