Tripp Lites Smart Online SU3000XL on-line, double conversion UPS protects critical server, networking or telecommunications equipment from blackouts, brownouts, voltage fluctuations and surges in an attractive all-black tower format. Large capacity 3kVA / 2400 watt UPS continuously converts incoming AC-to-DC, then back to perfect sine wave AC output at 120V AC (/-2). Removes harmonic distortion, fast electrical impulses, frequency fluctuations and other hard-to-solve power problems not addressed by other UPS systems. True sine wave output and zero transfer time offers guaranteed compatibility with all equipment types. Includes 7 UPS supported outlets with two individually switchable load banks that can be independently controlled via the UPSs software interface to selectively reboot remote equipment or automatically shed less critical loads to extend battery runtime for the most critical equipment. Battery support can be extended with the addition of multiple external battery packs (part BP72V9). Includes slot for internal SNMP/web card, plus DB9 enhanced serial monitoring port for unattended shutdown, remote control and monitoring of UPS system and power data. Extremely poor engineering.

This unit must have been designed by junior technicians,for the following reasons:
1. The two fans in the back run full speed at an ear-numbing sound level from the moment the unit is plugged in, regardless of its cooling requirements. Even when it is trickle charging, where it consumes (or should consume) less than one watt of power (that of a flashlight), the cooling fans run at top speed that make so much noise that it is impossible to carry on a conversation in the same room.
Now, even a junior engineer knows that cooling by fans, especially noisy ones, should be a response to sensed heat, not something you do for good measure 24 hours/day. Trippline designers obviously did not know that.
Apparently, that same design philosophy was used in most other products by the same manufacturer, judging from the identical complaints by numerous other buyers of other units of same and lower wattages, on Amazon. Trippline was not influenced, and most of those products were returned to the manufacturer, and so is mine.
Perhaps Trippine management should have a man-to-man talk with its engineers and marketers; they are hurting the company's reputation and profits.
2. The only way to make this unit acceptable is to re-engineer it so that its fans run "as needed" and "hen needed" to cool the electronics of the device. Running them at an ear shuttering top speed is wasteful of energy, and is a headache. Bad engineering.
Yes, the APC competing unit costs more, but the peace of mind and the energy saved in not powering un-needed cooling are well worth it. Stay away from this product.

Works like a charm. I had a standby UPS but it dropped out sensitive equipment occasionally. However this one being online it never drops out anything, not to mention it works perfectly with a generator.

FANTASTIC UNIT!

I ran a dedicated 30 amp circuit to this unit for my 300 gallon salt water aquarium, I use a Apex aqua controller on the aquarium that dictated that I needed minimally this much power, I run all kinds of lights, pumps, chiller compressors, all with flawless smooth fantastic power! I highly recommend this unit, in fact I am purchasing a second one today for my offices network closet.
