5Fantastic product

The products is really good for keeping strategic computers ON without having power reduction on an eventual power loss. I bought 2.

5Everything I hoped it would be
By GB
Bought this for home use some time ago, but was waiting for a power outage before reviewing it. My power went out a few minutes ago, and I'm running on generator power as I write this.

I have 3 computers, and had been using a small "regular" UPS on each one, but they didn't work right on generator power during outages, switching frequently to battery (sometimes so frequently they sounded like castinets!). Some quick Googling revealed that this is a common problem with "regular" UPS units, and that "double-conversion UPS" is the way to go if you have a generator. Typed that into the Amazon search box and up came the Tripp-Lite SU750XL. At first it seemed like overkill - 600W is about twice what I need for all 3 PCs. On the other hand, one SU750XL would replace my 3 "regular" UPS units, and 600W seems to be the smallest double-conversion UPS made. So I went for it, and can now verify that it operates perfectly on generator power. When the power goes out, it switches to battery until the generator kicks in (about 20 sec.), then runs on generator power, all without the slightest hiccup - thing of beauty!

Yes, the fan is a tad noisy for home use. I solved that problem by locating the UPS in the basement and running extension cords up to the PCs. I know, that's a no-no according to the manual. They don't say exactly why, but I suspect it's for safety reasons (you might plug your vacuum cleaner into one end of the cord, forgetting that the other end goes to a UPS and not a wall socket). My upstairs PC (the one I'm on now) gets its power from the UPS via a 40-foot extension cord, and I've not experienced any problem. The downstairs PCs plug into a PDU (a rack-mounted power strip) that has a 6-foot cord to the UPS. In this case I heeded the manual and used a non-surge-protected PDU, and that works just fine.

Wow, perfect timing - the power just came back on, and my PC didn't even blink!

5Jury still out
By coveman
Up to now the unit works very well. I have not yet been able to get the monitoring software to run on a W7 PC but it works fine on an older XP PC. The primary reason I bought this unit is with the expectation that it will charge on generator power. Other UPS's have not charged their batteries on generator power. Since I have not had a recent street prower failure, the jury is still out and I have not run a test.
