The CyberPower Ecologic Series EC850LCD uninterruptible power supply (UPS) provides battery backup and surge protection for PCs and other electronics (monitors, cable DSL/ modems, VoIP routers, and home theater devices) from blackouts, brownouts, surges, spikes, sags, and other power abnormalities. Its composite integrated circuitry offers advanced lightning protection. Patented GreenPower UPS advanced circuitry reduces UPS energy costs and is a ENERGY STAR listed product. The multi-function diagnostic LCD provides users the ability to check UPS operating status and assist in trouble-shooting power anomalies. The CyberPower EC850LCD has three surge protected ECO outlets. When ECO mode is on and the battery backup detects that your computer is off (or in Sleep mode), computer peripherals connected to the ECO outlets will be turned off (USB connection required). This provides additional reductions in power usage and greater energy savings. The EC850LCD unit has a capacity of 850VA/510Watts, twelve (12) NEMA 5-15R receptacles, including, 3 ECO mode outlets, and four (4) widely-spaced outlets to accommodate transformer-based plugs. Its compact design allows for horizontal or vertical placement, or it can be mounted on a wall. This UPS has a 12-volt maintenance-free sealed lead acid battery. Protection for phone/network (RJ11) is also included. EMI/RFI filters increase the immunity of the load to disturbances and surges. A HID compliant USB port provides connectivity to the EC850LCD. PowerPanel Personal Edition UPS Management software is included to monitor the vitals of the UPS and will safely shutdown the system in case of a power outage.

Pretty Good, however missing something important.

I have had many years and many UPS models from various companies so I know a bit about them.
The basics (surge/battery protection) are all very similar to each. The most basis models do just that, surge/battery protection with no LCD screen.
-This model is the next level up which includes LCD. In my opinion never ever buy a UPS without an LCD (trust me when power is out you want the information it provides).
-The next level up would be a "sine wave" power unit (this one is a "step" power unit). Don't worry "step" power is fine for residential use.
-The next level is a network attachable UPS unit which gets more expensive watt for watt and really is for business (can control multiple computers from one unit).
-The next level is network attachable rack mounts, and then data center units (these look like refrigerators) can be over +$100,000
Of course within each level the price can very because of battery size, so a big battery "step power" unit might cost more than a small battery "sine unit".
This unit is 3.5 star in my opinion. 1 star is taken away because the LCD does not provide the single most important information I like, which is watts being used. You can use a separate device I like called a "kill-a-watt" to check your devices but I think it is informative because if the unit says 390 watt max I want to see where I am at and not just a percentage. Is this a deal breaker...no because at this price point its o.k. The .5 star deduction is for "just adequate" build quality but I rounded up because of price point. If the price was higher I would have rounded down.
I have the CyberPower 1500pfclcd also for my main computer and that unit is head and shoulders above this in everyway including build quality. But for T.V., printer, ps3, etc. this is fine. CyberPower is a good company so don't worry. This unit gives a 3 year 100,000 warranty which is good for an entry level LCD unit.

Linux compatible and everything

I bought one of these to power my low-power media server, modem, and router, as my house occasionally has skips in the power that knock the server offline, requiring a manual restart. The LCD readout is nice for getting device status. It even supports Linux by command line. Once you install the package that is available from their website, you can get detailed stats on the UPS, run tests on the device, and configure what happens when the power is lost and when the battery is low. Both conditions can trigger shell scripts to run, which allows for email notifications, safe shutdown, or whatever else you want it to do. Overall, an excellent product so far.

Great surge protector/UPS

Love cyberpowers UPS's. I have a large unit for my desktop and networking equipment that has served me well for years and has proven its worth during multiple brown/black outs so I ordered this one for my game consoles. Havent had to test it against a surge or blackout yet but it works great otherwise!
